A watermark is in the form of text or image visible on the background of your document. Google Docs allows you to insert text and image watermarks from the Insert tab, as it provides additional security to documents.
In this tutorial, we will go through the two simple ways to create and add a watermark.
Create and Insert a Watermark using the Drawing tool
You can create a watermark using the drawing tool to insert it in Google Docs. Follow the steps below to do it.
- First, go to Insert in the menu bar.
- Then, hover over the cursor to the drawing and select New.
- Now, the drawing window will appear, and here, click on the text box icon.
- Drag the cursor on the window to draw the text box for entering the text into it.
- Once you enter the text, you can change font style, size, and color from the above formatting options.
- Interestingly, you can rotate the text box diagonally from the top blue dot.
- Click on the Save and Close button to save changes in the watermark.
- Next, the watermark appears on the Docs page. Click on it and select the behind-text option from the below menu.
- Finally, you can type the text in Google Docs, whatever you want on it.
Tip: You can also download the watermark image from the drawing tool for further use. Go to the Actions drop-down, click the Download option, and select the Format for the image (PNG image).
Add Image Watermark
When you need to add the image watermark to your documents, you can use the same image from your draft box that you have made in the drawing tool.
- Open the Google Docs document in which you want to add a watermark.
- Click on the Insert tab and select the Watermark from the drop-down.
- Then, the watermark menu will appear on the right side of the document.
- Now, select the image from the options, such as Google Drive, or upload it from your computer.
- After uploading the image, you can customize it from the More Image options.
- Here, in the Image options menu, you can adjust the watermark size, position, and color or make other adjustments to contrast, brightness, and so on.
- Once you make all the changes, close the image options window from the right corner.
- Click Done to add a watermark to the document.
Insert Text Watermark
Google Docs allows you to create the text watermark if you cannot find the image for your watermark. Here are the steps for this.
- Go to Insert and click on the Watermark.
- In the watermark menu, select the Text option.
- Next, type the text in the box you want to see as a watermark.
- After that, adjust the font size, style, transparency, and angle from the formatting options.
- In the end, click Done to apply the text watermark in your document.
