Create a Graph in Google Docs

Google Docs allows you to make a chart or graph for your document. These charts can represent the trend and patterns in the data.

Further, if you want to edit the chart, you need to click on the open-source link, and then customize it by changing the data in the Google Sheets.

In this tutorial, we will look at the types of graphs and the steps to add and edit them in the document.

Types of Graphs and Charts

In Google Docs, we have different types of graphs and charts. Here below are the types of this.

  1. Bar Graph
  2. Column Chart
  3. Pie Chart
  4. Line Graph

Steps to Create a Chart

Now, let’s take an example of a column chart.

  • First, go to the Insert Tab and then hover over to the Chart.
  • After that, select the type of chart that you want to add to your document.
  • Once you click on the graph, the chart inserts into the main page of the document.

Edit the Column Chart

With the help of the following steps, you can customize your column chart.

  1. If you want to edit the data in the graph, click on the right-side link icon and select the open-source option.

  2. Next, it will open the new Google Sheets window in the next tab where you can edit the chart data.

  3. When you change data in the columns, it will reflect in the chart once you click on the update option. For example, in the below picture, you can see the changes.

  4. In Google Sheets, right-click on the chart and select the chart style.

  5. Now, the chart editor window opens on the right side of the sheet.

  6. Here, you can also customize the column chart by changing its border color, font, font color, and gridlines from the drop-down color palette.

  7. To edit the chart title, type the new one in the title text column. After this, you can change its font and font size also.

  8. After making all the changes, your column chart looks like the one below.

  9. Next, go back to the Google Docs file. Finally, click update, which displays at the top of the chart.

  10. In the end, after making all the adjustments, your final chart is ready on the document.

Note: You can add and edit any graph or chart (Line Graph, Pie Chart, and Bar Graph) from the above steps in your document.
